24 hours of rest, relaxation and romance at Hilton Auckland

Juggling a career and being a parent doesn’t exactly encourage time for romance. That’s why Remix Digital & Lifestyle Editor, Nina and her partner, Paddy jumped at the opportunity to stay at Hilton Auckland for 24 hours of seaside views, decadent dining and Sunday morning sleep-ins.

Checking in on a sunny Saturday afternoon we were greeted by the friendly front desk team and were guided to our Deluxe Harbour View room on the top floor of Hilton Auckland. Our attention was immediately drawn to the incredible view from our gigantic balcony, which overlooked The Harbour Bridge and the Auckland Harbour, the ferry terminal, and the skyline of Auckland’s downtown. Wasting no time, we headed straight down to Bellini Bar on the ground floor for some afternoon cocktails in the sun and some delicious neo-Mediterranian tapas, while we took in the panoramic sea views of Auckland’s harbour, then back up to our room to get changed for our dinner reservation at the iconic FISH restaurant.

Seated by the window we were witness to a stunning sunset that night while dining on our entrees - Venison Tataki and a Buratta dish. However, the stars of the show were the main meals that I still can’t stop thinking about. For me, I couldn’t go past the Mt Cook Salmon with prawn, sunflower seed and sweet corn - an absolute mouth-watering treat. For Paddy, the Beef Eye-Fillet with kumara, black garlic cream and pickled onion - both pairing our meals with two glasses of white and red.

After dinner, we made our way back down to our room for an early night. There’s nothing quite like those fresh, crisp hotel sheets and cloud-like pillows to send you off into a deep sleep. After a much-needed lie-in, we headed down to the buffet breakfast at FISH restaurant for a cup of Atomic coffee and a decadent selection of breakfast treats, taking in the harbourside view once more. While our trip was short and sweet, it was just what we needed to recharge our batteries. The food, the views and the comfortable bed all deserve honourable mentions, but for us - it was the service that really stood out and what made this staycation really special.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left - every encounter with Hilton’s amazing staff was just as pleasant as the last. They really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, comfortable and well looked after - a second-to-none service that I couldn’t recommend enough to those of you wanting to escape on your own little romantic inner-city staycay.
