In today's travel landscape, sustainability isn't just a nice-to-have—it's a priority. In 2016, just a third of Kiwi travellers (30 per cent) considered themselves to be travelling sustainably. Fast-forward to today, and that mindset has shifted dramatically. Booking.com's Sustainability and Travel Report 2025 reveals that 90 per cent of travellers want to make more sustainable choices.

Kiwi travellers are increasingly seeking ways to tread lightly, support local communities, and protect the places they love exploring. This growing movement reflects a shared commitment to keeping travel meaningful, responsible, and sustainable for future generations. To mark its 10th research edition, Booking.com shares a list of accommodations featuring third-party sustainability certifications worldwide. 

Kaiteriteri, New Zealand
Tucked away in the breathtaking Abel Tasman region of the South Island, Kaiteriteri is a picturesque seaside town serving as the southern gateway to the renowned Abel Tasman National Park.
