Can you describe some of the key milestones for Girls That Invest?
Girls That Invest has hit some incredible milestones that I’m really proud of. Becoming a Forbes 30 under 30 and winning the Young New Zealand of the Year are two milestones I am incredibly proud of. It’s amazing to know that I get to help women everywhere become more confident with their finances. Another huge milestone was publishing the Girls That Invest book. It was a labour of love, and getting it out there to provide accessible financial education felt like a significant achievement. Additionally, our courses have been a huge success, empowering women with the knowledge they need to start investing. Winning the Cartier Women’s Initiative Award was another highlight; it was an honour and a testament to the impact we’re making.
How do you handle setbacks and failures, both personally and professionally?
Setbacks and failures are inevitable in both personal and professional life. I handle them by first acknowledging my feelings and giving myself permission to feel disappointed or frustrated. It’s not uncommon to find me laying face down in my bed, not knowing what to do and not wanting to talk to anyone. I allow myself “to feel the feelings” and then try shifting my focus to what I can learn from the experience. I believe failure is a beautiful thing, it means you’re trying. I have so much respect for those who try and fail, as they “fail upwards” towards their goals, than someone who is too scared to try at all.

You’ve spoken at various conferences; can you share which one has been your favourite and why?
One of my favourites will always be speaking at Google’s New York Office. It was an incredible experience to share my journey with over 1000 googlers — staff at Google — about how I grew my business and how to invest. I think there is nothing more valuable than knowledge sharing and it was one of those huge “pinch me” moments!
You travel a lot for Girls That Invest; what’s your favourite place to visit and why?
One of my favourite places to visit is New York City. The city’s vibrant energy and diverse culture are incredibly inspiring. New York is also a hub for finance and entrepreneurship. I love the sense of possibility and excitement that the city offers, and it always leaves me feeling motivated and full of new ideas. I have never come across such a polarising and energetic place. The first day I stepped foot in New York and walked down to Soho on a chilly sunny morning, I knew I had found my second home.
Describe a time when you dared to dream...
I believed in an idea so outside of what was considered normal. I dreamed that despite not having a business degree or knowing where my path would lead me, that I would one day own a large company that would create impact, let me travel the world and leave me feeling fulfilled. I still remember telling my friends about this idea I had called Girls That Invest — some of them were very supported and some of them were kindly asking me why this would even work. But I am so glad I allowed myself to dare to dream, and that I put some action behind my audacious dream. It’s so important to try, I cannot stress it enough, trying leads to 100% of all dreams coming true.
