Iman opens up about her 24-Year Marriage with David Bowie

Veteran model and style icon Iman sat down with Oprah for her American Where Are They Now? TV show in January and candidly discussed her life with the late David Bowie. 

The supermodel and rockstar were married for 24 years after being wed in 1992, and have a 15-year old daughter together, Alexandria Zahra. Sadly, David passed away at the age of 69 after a secret 18-month battle with cancer.

Iman opened up having a laugh, ‘People say, "Do you give him fashion tips?" What are you, crazy? We’re talking about David Bowie. He is fashion!’

In the interview prior to Bowie's death, Iman reveals that ‘When we are home, we are just Iman and David. We’re not anybody else.’ She says, 'We both understand the difference between the person and the persona.'

She also speaks about the secret to a long-lasting marriage: timing. ‘You have to be at the right time in your life that you’re ready for an everlasting relationship, that it becomes first and a priority in your life,’ she said. ‘If your career is important to you, don’t get married and have children, because something will give. I know we as women, we want to be able to have it all, but we can’t have it all at the same time. So make your priority of what you want at that time.’

Iman has maintained a low profile following her husband’s death on 10 January, but expressed her gratitude at the love and support for herself and David’s loved ones have received in the weeks since his death.
