Goodness Gracious adds lamb option to their line-up of legendary bagels

IMG_7664   Words and photography by Lauren Matilda Matthews from The Kitchen Collective. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? Wrong. On a recent trip to everyone’s favourite bagel shop, Goodness Gracious, I was pleasantly surprised to hear whispered rumours of a new addition to their menu. On further investigation, the rumour was put to rest; yes indeed, a new bagel has been introduced to the already tough-decision-making offerings. The cleverly, or for vegos out there, crassly named bagel, is a lamb number dubbed Proud Mary.  Succulent shredded lamb receives its tenderness from hours of slow cooking. It’s paired with a crisp mint, Dijon rocket and Raita. Raita being the traditional Indian yogurt accompaniment, but in true Goodness Gracious nature, they’ve jazzed it up with the addition of crème fraiche, cumin, cucumber, red onion, feta, chargrilled capsicum, and a hint of orange. Oh, all sandwiched between one of those perfectly toasted, chewy bagels. And if the nursery rhymes are true, Mary had a little lamb. Operative word being ‘had’; Goodness Gracious has it now, and oh boy, would Mary be proud. Visit Goodness Gracious at 2A New North Road, Eden Terrace, Auckland or visit them online here.
