Navigating the embroidery revolution

Unless you've been hiding under a rock the past month or so, you'll already know that the embroidery revolution is back in a major way.

Although this trend has been in the works since early 2017 Spring lines... our stores, streets and insta-feeds have suddenly become completely saturated with all manner of zig-zags, cross-stitches, delicate floral motifs and more.

With major fashion houses such as Gucci, Dior, Naeem Khan and Reem Acra leading us along the patterned path, it wasn't going to be long before this style became every girl’s staple. Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, has also said Renaissance patterns and images are influential in his designs. Which is evident in his elegant approach to detail.Check out our favourite runway-ready embroidery inspo here:

The embroidery trend allows designers to showcase their expert craftsmanship and creativity, with minute detailing and delicate patterns truly stealing the show. Embroidery offers freedom of expression, that transcends the boundaries of traditional textiles.

Traditionally monotone fabrics like leather, cotton and denim are being transformed into pieces of art. Hand-stitched colour and baroque styling is a developing practice, but one we are completely fascinated by.

Drawing inspiration from femininity, self-exploration and the natural world, its easy to see why these intricate designs are highly sought after.

If you are anything like us, owning a ready-to-wear, hand-crafted piece, is only a pipe dream. But don’t stress, we’re in luck! Thankfully this trend is being replicated and redefined throughout the fashion world. Internationally loved stores such as Zara, Topshop and our very own and much beloved Trelise Cooper, have translated the art of embroidery for the everyday.
