Seven facts you never knew about the Olsen twins
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's personal lives are shrouded in a cloud of mystery. Last week, however, they invited a small group of journalists to speak with them and have a tour around their latest store for one of their labels, The Row.
In their interview, they shared some new facts about themselves that may surprise some.
1. Several of their clients for The Row have no idea the Olsens were child stars previous to being fashion designers...
According to the interviewer from The New York Times, although the Olsens themselves are only 29, their clients are often 'decades older than then' and therefore were too old to keep up with their success on movies and in particular, their role on Full House.
2. The Olsen twins never ever shop online...
Apparently, Mary-Kate did buy something in an online auction once, but it was not shared what that item was. We like to imagine that it was some sort of high-end art or antique. It is hard to imagine the girls setting up their own PayPal accounts!
3. They can, however, understand the appeal of shopping online...
They are said to understand the convenience of online shopping but do not indulge in it themselves. 'People like shopping online because they've made it so easy,' Mary-Kate told Schneier. Ashley added 'You don't have to deal with people.'
4. The Olsens strongly believe in the importance of dressing gowns...
Who would have thought that the Olsen twins would love dressing gowns as much as the normal person! In normal stores, you might be comfortable changing into clothes straight off the rack but the Olsen twins have equipped all their changing rooms with custom cotton dressing gowns for their clients to slip into between outfits.
5. MK and A understand how draining it can be shopping all day, so they offer lunch to clients between outfit changes...
The twins didn't delve into what lunch at The Row actually entails but we doubt the store at the Upper East Side has a commercial kitchen... So we can only imagine it's extravagant!
6. According to the interview, it's possible that the whole store concept is just a way for the Olsens to write off their personal shopping as a business expense...
According to the interview, 'some of the art and furniture will rotate between their homes and the store.'
7. The Olsens wanted their new store to feel like a home...
The twins and their clients are very wealthy, so their store is decorated accordingly. When they say it feels like 'a home', they mean 'their home'. While you might have a poster hanging on your wall, the girls paintings that might be hanging in a museum over theirs.
When Mary-Kate asked a reporter whether it felt like a home to him, he admitted that it did, although, he added regretfully, not his. 'I didn't say your home,' she replied.
