Your guide to The Servilles Academy

Next month The Servilles Academy is holding intakes for three courses, including NZ Certificate in Makeup and Skincare; NZ Certificate in Hairdressing - Salon Support; and NZ Certificate in Barber Skills.

So what can I expect?

Well, first things first: Servilles is Australasia’s leading and most-awarded Hairdressing, Barbering and Makeup Academy - so we trust you’ll be in good hands. The academy has a prestigious reputation as an exceptional training organisation, recognised both nationally and globally as a trusted and respected institute.

All three of the aforementioned courses offered at Servilles Academy are NZQA approved qualifications, with Level 4 certificates available in both Hairdressing and Makeup. All courses are taught by highly-trained tutors with years of industry experience. In-class learning is accompanied with opportunities to partake in high-profile external events, ranging from New Zealand Fashion Week, runway shows, TV, live performances and music videos for internationally recognised artists. This hands-on approach to work experience gives students a taste of what it’s like in the real world.

New Zealand Certificate in Makeup & Skincare (Level 3)

Guided by passionate and highly-trained tutors, this programme will teach you the essential skills needed to kickstart your career in the makeup industry. Aspiring MUAs can be assured all bases are covered in this foundation course, from basic beauty concepts to consultation skills to product knowledge. If that wasn’t enough, it gives you free license to play around with MAC all day; Servilles uses MAC Cosmetics for all student kits, workshops, and seasonal demonstrations.

Course Duration & Hours

20 weeks, Tues-Fri, 9am-3:30pm (additional work experience may be outside these hours).

New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing - Salon Support (Level 3)

Founder Paul Serville has over 50 years of hairdressing experience, so it’s no surprise that hairdressing sits at the core of The Servilles Academy. Students will experience the passion, knowledge, innovation, and necessary learning opportunities to prepare them for their prospective careers. This NZQA approved course will teach protégés the essential foundation skills for a bright future in hairdressing, including theory, fashion trends, product knowledge, colouring and highlighting, long hair styling, shampoo, blow waving, setting and client care. This course also provides an introduction to scissor cutting.

Course Duration & Hours

34 weeks, Tues-Fri, 8:45am-4:15pm (Monday is a self-directed study day for projects/assignments).

Entry Criteria

To be eligible for this course you must be 16 or over, with clear suitability and a strong desire to excel in the industry.

New Zealand Certificate in Barber Skills (Level 3)

Barbering is one of the most in-demand industries in New Zealand, so get amongst this great opportunity for a successful career. Course graduates are guaranteed to stand out to prospective employers within the industry. This NZQA approved programme will teach you how to create the latest styles as well as the classics, expertly taught by respected industry professionals. Students will equipped with a strong repertoire of techniques, product knowledge and styling abilities. Content includes theory, scissor cutting, hair and scalp care, beard and moustache design, men’s styling, scissor and razor combo cuts, and customer service.

34 weeks, Tues-Fri, 8:45am-4:15pm (Monday is a self-directed study day for projects/assignments).
