Sarah Reid shares her embodied approach to holistic beauty
Sarah Reid is a force of nature. Her vision for a modern approach to bodycare is thoughtful and steadfast. The path to founding Embodyme stems from her own struggles with burnout and hormone imbalances, where traditional medicine could only go so far. By embracing a holistic approach and retraining as a health coach, Sarah tells me of the power of daily rituals that connect the body and mind. Speaking with Sarah, it is clear that the beauty industry is embracing wellness and shifting toward a more intentional, embodied approach—one she's bringing to life with luxurious body care that nourishes the skin while uplifting the mind and mood. And if you ask me, it's exactly what we need.
Can you tell me a little bit more about your journey to beginning Embodyme—I know you came from quite a busy and probably stressful background in the beauty industry—how did this influence your vision?
Embodyme is deeply personal to me—it’s born from my own wellness journey. Like so many women, I spent years pushing myself hard, ignoring the warning signs that my relentless pace was taking a toll on my mental and physical health. By my early 40s, I hit an all-time low—a culmination of factors that left me burnt out, emotionally drained, and dealing with a myriad of hormone-related health issues. This journey taught me the power of daily rituals. Wellbeing isn’t just about diet and exercise, it’s about being fully present in both body and mind—to be embodied. That’s what truly transforms how we feel. Body care has always been a favourite ritual for me, and it’s the core of Embodyme. We create luxurious, multi-sensorial body care products, blending clean botanical oils and certified natural fragrances to nourish the skin and boost mood. Through small but intentional daily rituals, we empower people to pause, reconnect, and transform how they feel.
How do you decide on the formulation of your oils?
I’m passionate about oils: the texture, the way they feel on the skin, and how they create a moment of luxury in everyday life. When formulating Embodyme’s oils, I wanted to bring together the best of skincare, fragrance, and emotional wellbeing in one powerful ritual. I’ve obsessed over the quality of our ingredients, selecting only the finest, nutrient-dense botanical oils, each chosen for its unique nutrient profile to enhance the skin’s health and radiance. I was also determined to source oils grown and processed in New Zealand, protecting their integrity while keeping our supply chain as tight and sustainable as possible. Our fragrances are COSMOS-certified natural, ensuring that scent plays a key role in shifting mood while remaining clean and non-toxic. We carefully crafted four scent profiles: Courage, Joy, Peace, and Kindness. These are innate human qualities that, in modern life, are often suppressed. Embodyme is about reconnecting with these essential states through intentional rituals, reminding us to embody courage, joy, peace, and kindness towards ourselves and others.
How has Embodyme evolved since its founding, and what are the key milestones you are most proud of?
I’m most proud of launching Embodyme at 50, showing my three young kids that it’s never too late to start something new. The startup journey has been challenging, and I’ve had to work hard to quiet self-doubt. But the growth, both personal and professional, has been immense. Embodyme is always evolving, improving, and growing in response to our community. Our customers have a genuine love for our products, and knowing that we’re making a difference in their lives is my driving force.
What role does self-connection and emotional wellbeing play in your work as a founder?
It’s everything. In today’s hustle culture, it’s easy to lose connection with ourselves. The demands of modern life are relentless, but I’ve made a conscious choice to show up as the best version of myself each day by prioritising self-connection and emotional wellbeing. For me, this means taking a moment every day to reset, refocus, and cultivate a positive mindset. Embodyme supports this by helping people create a more intentional way of living through simple, sensory rituals that bring them back to themselves.
What is one simple ritual people can incorporate into their daily lives for better self-connection?
There are so many simple ways to nurture both body and mind throughout the day—small rituals that help us feel more present connected, and enhance our wellbeing. One powerful practice is self-massage. It relieves tension, supports circulation, and calms the nervous system. It’s also an opportunity for positive self-talk and self-appreciation. Rather than rushing, taking a minute after your shower or bath to apply our Nurturing Body Oil with intention transforms a basic routine into a grounding ritual.
How does the power of scent influence our mood?
The scent is incredibly powerful—it triggers up to 75% of our daily moods. When we smell a fragrance, it activates the limbic system, the part of the brain that processes emotions, feelings, and memory. This is why certain scents can instantly transport us to a specific moment in time, evoke deep emotions, or even shift our state of mind. The ability of scent to influence how we feel is significant. This is why fragrance plays a key role in Embodyme’s Nurturing Body Oils, not just as a beautiful sensory experience but also as a tool to support emotional wellbeing and create intentional moments of self-connection.
What oil would you recommend for this time of year?
I feel the world needs more Peace right now. We need to collectively restore calm and inner balance individually and on a global level. With so much noise and uncertainty, finding ways to cultivate stillness, presence, and connection has never been more important.
As an expert in the industry, what trends are you excited about?
The biggest trend I see right now (and one I’m a huge champion of) is the ‘wellnessification’ of beauty. Beauty should do more than just make us look good; it should also make us feel good. I believe the beauty culture needs a fundamental shift, moving away from seeking external validation and instead embracing a more introspective approach that honours our real beauty. I also see a continued shift toward minimalism, with a stronger focus on clean, sustainable ingredients and quality over quantity. Consumers are becoming more mindful of what they put on their skin and are looking for multi-functional products that support both wellbeing and environmental responsibility. Another exciting evolution is fragrance being used in a more functional way, not just as a scent we wear but as a tool to influence mood, mindset, and emotional wellbeing. This is something I’m particularly passionate about, as it aligns perfectly with what we do at Embodyme.
Where do you see Embodyme in five years?
We envision a world where body care is more than just a routine—it’s a daily practice of presence, self-connection, and intentional living. Our vision is to help create a more embodied world one moment at a time—by weaving mindful rituals into everyday life that help shift us from feeling overstretched and worn out to a feeling of vitality and balance. This year is an exciting one for Embodyme. We’re launching several new products and expanding into new markets, which will mark major milestones for the brand. It’s incredible to see how our vision is resonating with people, and we’re committed to continuing to evolve, grow, and bring more women on this journey with us.
