Welcome summer with one of Auckland’s best annual events

The festive season is officially nigh because once again the Remix team find themselves saddling up for another exceptional evening at the Barfoot & Thompson Twilight Races at Ellerslie. This truly is an event not be missed, what better way to mark the beginning of the summer festivities than with a bit of style, glamour and thoroughbred racing.

The Barfoot & Thompson Jockeys’ World Cup adds to the excitement. Where every horse is randomly allocated a jockey, and every jockey is representing one of four teams – Northern Mystics Women, New Zealand Breakers International, The Blues Men or the Mercy Hospice Young Guns, all in silks designed by Benny Castles. The teams then gain points depending on race outcomes in a bid to take out the coveted cup.

Take the afternoon off, and the next morning if need be, as festivities will kick-off late afternoon. Although the evening will indeed be centered around the schedule of horse racing, the horses themselves will be fighting for the spotlight against all the entertainment and trackside activities. Races begin at 4.40pm and end at 7.45pm, followed by the famous after-party which is open to all ticketholders, this year featuring Jupiter Project and Ayden Harris.

General admission tickets are $10 which is probably about the same amount as popcorn at the movies and this is a whole lot more enjoyable. There are a range of hospitality options to suit all budgets (we’re loving the Champagne Lawn…. bottomless ‘dinner’, anyone), but tickets are literally flying out the gates with some areas already sold out! So, DO NOT hold your horses, jump onto the Auckland Racing Club’s website ASAP and secure your spot.
