The Wonder of Waikopou: Waiheke's Best Kept Secret

Nestled into a cliff top overlooking the Hauraki Gulf, wedding and events venue Waikopou offers a side to Waiheke Island rarely seen by the public. A secret slice of paradise, guests enter the space and are immediately greeted by a jaw-dropping 20m infinity pool surrounded by tranquil native bush, and views stretching as far as the Coromandel Peninsula.

Spanning 850 sqm, Waikopou is a semi-circle built using rammed earth, poured earth and concrete. The minimal, brutalist-style architecture makes this venue entirely customisable and there is no need for wedding parties to leave the space as it has a myriad of backdrops.

A covered walkway wrapping around the exterior is ideal for canapés and mingling as well as a banquet-style seated dinner. The space has comfortable seating for up to 130 guests including the balcony and 150 for a stand-up cocktail-style affair.

As the space is so secluded, noise complaints and curfews are redundant. Guests can dance under the stars until the early hours, some even opting for a midnight swim, veil and all. A large bedroom and ensuite sit on the top floor of the house ideal for getting ready and capturing lifelong memories in front of one of the most spectacular seascapes the country has to offer.

Though Waiheke Island is one of Aotearoa’s most popular wedding destinations, a celebration held at Waikopou is truly something special.
