Remix drives the all-new MINI Aceman

Zipping around the centre of Auckland is not a task for the faint-hearted, but I personally love spending the day exploring our very own version of a concrete jungle. If you have the right side-kick to get you through the road-works, one way streets, and tight parking spaces; anything is possible.

The MINI Aceman is the newest addition to the MINI family, and is an effortless blend of compact, urban-practicality, and one hundred percent electric. The Aceman introduces an all-new body size for the MINI brand - it’s bigger than the iconic Cooper model, and smaller than the larger Countryman. Its balanced proportions make it ideal for navigating crowded city streets whilst maintaining the hallmark go-kart feeling expected from a MINI. Ultimately, the Aceman is the perfect companion for a day out in the city.

A day out in our CBD isn't complete without a stop at Commercial Bay—a one-stop shop destination for the fashion enthusiasts, beauty lovers and foodies alike. As a frequent shopper at the precinct, the MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant has recorded Commercial Bay as a ‘repetitive route’ of mine. Activated with the phrase ‘Hey MINI’ on the OLED display, the Aceman draws on geo-based data to direct me to Downtown Carpark via Google Maps. It even automatically opens my window upon entering the car park.

It’s obvious why MINI is known for their world-class connectivity, but a hidden feature in the new Aceman’s infotainment system has changed the way my friends and I listen to music on our trips over the Harbour Bridge—especially when we’re searching for a car park in the city. Once connected to the MINI in-car media system, I can select the media screen and swipe left with two fingers. In doing this, the vinyl feature will be activated and your passenger princesses will be able to use three fingers to ‘scratch’ their own record. This all-new DJ functionality hidden feature gives the term ‘on AUX’ a whole new meaning.

Another exciting MINI Aceman discovery was the “Selfie Mode” feature, thanks to the new model’s Interior Camera. What girls day out is complete without a photo for your Instagram story? To access “Selfie Mode”, I clicked on the MINI in-car app menu and selected “interior camera”. A word of advice, leave the photography to your friend in the passenger seat, or make sure to pull over before commencing your photoshoot!

Additionally, the MINI Aceman’s next-level connectivity through the ‘My MINI’ app seamlessly allowed me to stay connected with my city side-sick, even whilst I was picking out a new mascara at Mecca. Knowing I was in need of charging up my Aceman, I was able to search for the closest EV charger on my phone, and it sent directions straight to the MINI navigation.

As a fully electric vehicle, ‘refueling’ the Aceman is easy and cheap. With many EV charging stations dotted around the city, the Aceman battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in around 30 minutes, ensuring you can make that 7.30pm reservation at Ortolana, no problem.
