Labour Weekend Activities: Our Top Five Spots This Long Weekend

Another long weekend is finally upon us (hurray!) and Remix has put together our Top Five To Do List. From NZ’s own Comic Con to the beautiful surroundings of Northern towns – Mangawhai and Matakana, there is something for everyone to get amongst this weekend. Alongside all these amazing events and activities happening up and down the country, we really can’t wait to have a good Monday sleep-in! Happy Labour Weekend folks. 1. Have you ever wanted to go to Comic Con in the States? Well we have the next best bet - NZ’s annual Armageddon Expo at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland this weekend. The entertainment expo celebrates all things sci-fi, comics, anime and cartoons plus has all of your favourite TV and movie stars in the flesh. It's their 20th anniversary so you know it's going to be big and you can catch all the madness all weekend long - tickets from iTicket.co.nz. 2. It’s not called Magical Mangawhai for nothing; why not head up north for some surf and sunshine! Mangawhai is a short 1 hour and 20 minutes drive from Auckland’s CBD and it's full of good food (love the bread pies at the local Deli) plus beautiful beaches - find the hidden sand dunes and sail down them on a paper box, like you did when you were a kid! Six60 even spent months up here writing their new music, so you know it’s a golden find. Over Labour weekend there’s a Country Market in the Domain and a Gala Day at the local school. 3. Keeping in tune of the sunny Northern towns, if Matakana is more your type of place, head along to their Sunday festivities this Labour Weekend with the Matakana Vintage Markets and Matakana Indie Markets, you'll be spoilt for choice. Add on a brunch date at Matakana Market Kitchen and you can't go wrong (highly recommend their Nutella and Banana Pancakes!). 4. You've probably exhausted NZ's biggest theme park during the day, but have you ever been out there at night? Rainbows End Night Frights are back with Andre Vegas' Halloween show, Identity Dance Crew and the Panic House Motion Master. Halloween is just around the corner so this is the perfect way to spend your Saturday night in the dark on all your favourite rides. 5. The Diwali Festival of Lights is heading to TSB Bank Arena in Wellington on Monday featuring the best Indian food, displays of traditional and contemporary dance, music and more - admission is free so head on down from 1pm-9:30pm to get amongst India's best loved festival.
