Make sure you take a stroll down Oxford Street, drink mulled wine on the South Bank, sing carols at St Paul’s and join in on the beer hall fun at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland. 

New York City 
Covered in a light dusting of snow, New York City transforms into the dreamy Christmas destination we’ve all seen portrayed in many a festive movie. Bundle up warmly because temperatures in the Big Apple at this time of year can fall well below freezing! Check out the world’s tallest Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Centre – and make sure you take up the opportunity to ice skate below it while you’re there. 

The Vatican 
A magical city at any time of the year, The Vatican really comes into its own during the month of December. Nativity scenes are displayed on every corner and the smell of roasting chestnuts fills the air. To really get into the true spirit of what Christmas is all about, join the Midnight Mass in St Peter’s Basilica on Christmas Eve. 

 Finland 
Possibly the most Christmassy holiday destination on the planet – after all, it is home to jolly old Saint Nick himself! Nestled within Finland’s Arctic Circle is the official Santa Claus Village and while it’s a fairly touristy affair, we challenge you not to relive your childhood dreams with a visit to see the jolly man in the red suit himself.  

Bethlehem 
When the mad consumerism of Christmas all becomes too much, take a pilgrimage to the very birthplace of Jesus Christ and Christmas itself. The frisson and energy within the city at this time of year is a sight to behold and something found nowhere else on the planet. Be sure to attend Midnight Mass at St Catherine’s Church to truly immerse yourself in the heart of Christmas.
