Ingredients:
- 1 bottle of red wine
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1 orange (sliced into thin rounds)
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon (or alternatively, 2 cinnamon sticks)
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
Method:
- Pour the water into a large stainless steel pot and add the sugar, cinnamon, cloves and slices of orange. Slowly bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and leave to simmer.
- After 15 minutes, stir in the wine. Keep simmering the mixture but make sure it remains on a medium-low heat (unless you want the alcohol to boil off!)
-
Leave over this medium-low heat for another 15 minutes - or for up to three hours. Use a soup ladle to serve it warm straight into glasses - this recipe should serve about 8.
- Serve with garnishes of your choice (see our serving suggestion above) and drink whilst toasty warm!
