Loving local, the new initiative helping NZ hospitality wave goodbye to lockdown

Lion is calling on Kiwis across the country to band together to Make a Date & Take a Mate, tagging their mates to join them at their favourite hospo hot spots

From Cape Reinga to Bluff, armies of hospo-loving New Zealanders are preparing to join forces, led by influential Kiwis, to lift the NZ hospitality industry back to its pre-lockdown glory. Cheers to Your Local, a campaign brought to the nation by Lion, uses social media sharing to create a much-needed sense of community and togetherness, encouraging Kiwis to get out and about once more and show support by frequenting their best-loved local venues. 


Today, Lion is introducing the second phase of Cheers to Your Local following the successful launch of a social-media toolkit for hospitality customers within the industry last week. This chapter calls on Kiwis near and far to get involved and say “cheers!” to the industry by tagging their mates to visit their favourite restaurants, bars and cafes in an effort to boost the best of what our country has to offer.


To support New Zealand’s world-renowned hospitality industry and drive Lion’s influential Cheers to Your Local campaign across social media, Kiwis can:


  • Head to the Cheers to Your Local Instagram and Facebook pages

  • Download and use the Cheers to Your Local tiles, templates, filters and stickers to “Make a Date & Take a Mate” - tagging and inviting friends and family to join them at the venues they’ve been missing

  • Spread the love further by nominating people in their social networks to do the same in celebration of the industry’s comeback

  • In doing so, Kiwis also have the chance to win food and beverage vouchers for their favourite local hospo hot spots
