BMW X1 Plus: Win the ultimate driving machine for a month
Review by Tim Phin.
I don’t usually write these reviews - as you can imagine there’s always a scramble to get the opportunity to drive and review luxe new cars. For this issue though, I put my foot down (literally) because I’ve been hearing so much hype about the new BMW X1 Plus. The X1 Plus is a limited-edition version of BMW’s best-selling mid-size SUV, the X1, and BMW have really upped the ante as the X1 Plus comes with more than $9,000 worth of free options, and at $69,900 drive away, that adds incredible value.
I was driving the X1 Plus for a month and loved it. It’s the perfect medium-sized vehicle - big enough with five doors to take friends out in, the city, the dog to the park and gear and toys away for the weekend - but small enough to parallel park on a one-way lane for some downtown shopping. Surprisingly the inside of the X1 Plus is significantly more spacious than that of my own existing, and larger 4WD. The panorama glass roof opens the interiors to the skies and lets the sun shine in, making the car feel incredibly light and spacious.
A few other features for you petrol heads and car geeks out there - the BMW X1 Plus is an 8-speed automatic and features park distance control, a multifunction steering wheel, seat heating for the driver and front passenger, rain sensors and a really slick xenon lights package that makes the vehicle look coolly menacing from any angle. And that’s only the tip of the iceberg... it's no wonder BMW is known as ‘The Ultimate Driving Machine’ and is New Zealand’s favourite luxury automotive brand.
