The Incredible Zimmermann NYFW Show
Zimmermann is the brand that has made a mark on the international fashion scene while still maintaining a quintessential Australian style. The company was founded by Nicky Zimmermann in Sydney in 1991, and now has showrooms in New York, Los Angeles, and London. This is proof for the hopefuls among us that big things are possible on our side of the world! The Zimmermann NYFW Show, that showcased its newest collection called Mirror Mirror, continues to hark back to Nicky and her sister Simone’s Aussie roots, but this time with a twist. Floaty, long dresses and silk pant suits nod in the direction of the laid-back Australian style. However, Nicky describes how the collection is 'Zimmermann but different' and this comes through with a more ornate, glamorous vibe merging with the ‘I-could-wear-this-at-the-beach’ statement Zimmermann look. As the name of the collection implies, the line showcased everything sparkly – from sequins to satin. Very impressively though the pieces are anything but gaudy, with soft pinks, nudes and browns paring back the sparkle-factor in a truly Aus way. In fact, Nicky said of the collection, 'the whole thing is about colour.' The earthy, dusky colours running through the show are sure to make a great palette to uplift the drab winter days ahead. The show began with white neon lights creating a distinctly modern vibe, but during the finale walk the lighting was dimmed to a soft purple, and the outfits were really allowed to shine (literally). Nicky said that the modern staging for most of the show countered the feel of the clothes themselves. The elaborate nature of the collection, with lace stockings, embroidered silks and multi-chain chokers running rife, was balanced and modernised with a clean and crisp presentation. Similarly, the models’ hair was swept back into a parted bun in an oh-so-modern way. As the Aussies would have it make-up was simple and bronzed, with a small swipe of silver eyeshadow being only a subtle statement. Front-row viewers abounded with both Australian and international it-girls, including Jessica Hart, Adelaide Kane, Hilary Duff and Serayah McNeill. And if they didn't enjoy the show we are gobsmacked! Words by Chantelle Murray. Images from teenvogue.com, nz.lifestyle.yahoo.com, zimmermannwear.com and eonline.com.
