Remix Reviews: the best of menswear SS24 fashion
Remix Editor-in-chief Amber pulls together her favourite menswear picks from fashion's latest runways in June.
Held inside the Deposito at Fondazione Prada, Milan, the Prada Spring/Summer 2024 Menswear fashion show was an examination of fluid architecture around the human body. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons made a point with structured suiting, brilliant raincoats, active sportswear, and reporter jackets. But (IMO) the most memorable moment lay in the orchid-like floral embellishments.
Armani beat the heat with pops of crisp white and a relaxed elegance for the Giorgio Armani Spring Menswear 2024 collection show, 'Weaving a Story' in Milan. By eliminating the time stamp of 'trends' Armani confidently showcased the importance of timelessness. It wasn't just the form of the clothes though, it was the way they were worn... causally slung on sun kissed statuesque models that walked at a slow leisurely pace. The runway presented this light and fresh collection, (including shoes and sandals characterised by knots and weaves), revealing a story in which everything comes together.
If you steer your beady eyes beyond the now-legendary performance of Vuitton Creative director Pharrell and Jay-Z, you can appreciate the devil in the detail of the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2024 Men’s Collection. Against a backdrop evocative of the radiant sun, Pharrell presented his first collection for the Maison at the illuminated Pont Neuf in Paris... we can't help but love a public space shut-down for a show. When you think about it, there's so much power in fashion... being able to bring a city to a halt for a runway. Who needs passage through the city anyway, right? Aside from the epic location, post-show partying and star-studded front row (hello RiRi & baby no2), it really was 'Damoflage' that took centre stage on the bridge. A mix of the heritage Damier pattern of Louis Vuitton with camouflage creating a reflection of two diverse domains of style. The man's a genius. Love to see it.
While the Gucci Spring Summer 2024 Men’s Collection may not have been presented on a traditional runway (it was unveiled in the form of a digital look book) the Italian Maison certainly didn't forget to shine a spotlight on the men’s seasonal selection. This collection is a visual and textural buffet - grab the biggest plate you can find - there's a bit of everything. Disco ball drama, preppy sweaters, skater boy sets with exaggerated sleeves, crisp workwear and all-red suiting ensembles all contain subtle historical signifiers of the house. Deconstructed, reconstructed or rendered in infinite colours and forms, its clear eternal emblems of heritage are invigorated through interpretation. He'll take one of everything, thanks.
