Re-Introducing the Coach Originals Collection

As all thrifters know, hitting the luxury bag lottery happens rarely, and takes tremendous talent and a well-honed eye. But one of my favourite finds at an undisclosed local thrift store (I can’t reveal all of my secrets) might just be one of my best scouts yet. Amid rows of worn leather and canvas, there, in all its understated glory, was a vintage black Coach Dinky bag. First introduced in 1974, this messenger-style bag had clearly stood the test of time. While paved with the marks of a long and well-loved life, I couldn’t believe that nearly 40 years later, my Dinky (yes, it came home with me) still had plenty of style—and life—left in it.

And therein lies its magic. Embedded within its supple leather is a legacy and craftsmanship that, since its inception, has defied the very constraints of time and trends. It’s this rich history that inspired the Coach Originals collection—a tribute to the brand’s New York heritage and the iconic styles that defined it. In Originals, Coach dips into its archives, celebrating classics like the Dinky with fresh, inspired reimaginings. Under the free-spirited lens of Creative Director Stuart Vevers, new colours, sustainable materials, and modern twists encourage collectors of the brand to connect with Coach’s timeless spirit— past, present, and future.

Remix Digital and Fashion Editor, Martha Brooke, re-introduces the Coach Originals collection - because some styles are just too good to leave in the archives.

Safari Bag
1968
First introduced in 1968 as Coach expanded into more utilitarian designs, the iconic Safari Bag is having a celebrated revival. Just as in its debut, this compact bag showcases Coach’s signature glove-tanned leather and the distinctive turn-lock-closure cargo pockets, with the versatility of being carried by the top handle or worn crossbody. True to Stuart Vevers’ vision, this modern iteration adds a playful, bold twist, available in vibrant pinks and greens—a refreshing evolution from its previously understated palette.

Dinky Bag
1974
Remembering five decades of iconic design, the Dinky Bag cements its place as a fan favourite in the Coach Originals collection. Lovingly dubbed ‘the little bag that could’, the elongated satchel-style bag proved repeatedly that it not only could, but it triumphed. Through the years, it’s seen quilted textures, monogram patterns, and bold new hues, yet its core design remains unchanged—because, as they say, if it isn’t broken, why fix it?

Swing Zip Bag
1998
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but nothing compares to the real deal. This past year, the Swing Zip Bag has topped every fashion lover’s wishlist, sparking countless imitations and sell-out successes. Inspired by a classic 1998 Coach silhouette, it is instantly recognisable by its structured, adjustable shoulder strap and elongated, glove-tanned leather body. Today, the Swing Zip arrives in a vibrant array of colours—think Hunter Green and Dark Ruby—making it the perfect backdrop for a curated collection of Coach key-rings and playful purse charms that are really having a moment.

Hamptons Hobo Bag
2005
An instant icon upon its debut in 2005, the reimagined Hamptons Hobo Bag is back—and some say, better than ever. Inspired by the charm of the East Coast, this bag embodies understated luxury with equal parts style and function. Alongside its signature dog-leash clip fastening and spacious interior, the new design includes features that enhance ergonomic comfort. Classic shades like Chalk and True Pink return, while limited-edition releases, including the signature jacquard with crystal detailing, bring fresh allure—no surprise it was a quick sellout among Coach connoisseurs.

Soho Bag
2006
While some things from the tattoo-choker era are best left behind, the relaunch of the reimagined Coach Soho proves otherwise. With its oversized buckle, bold pops of colour set against the hallmark Coach monogram, and short, under-arm top handle, this bag is a perfect nod to noughties nostalgia. Yet the addition of sustainably sourced regenerative leather makes it ideal for today’s style-conscious, eco-minded consumer.
