Introducing the Gucci Blondie

The perfect handbag should embody both heritage and a new vantage point—a characteristic Gucci has so beautifully mastered with the release of Blondie, an immediately recognisable silhouette from the iconic Cruise 2025 show.  To celebrate, the house has unveiled its captivating new campaign, We Will Always Have London, under the visionary direction of Sabato De Sarno. This stunning initiative highlights the iconic Gucci Blondie bag alongside the Cruise 2025 collection, starring the legendary Debbie Harry and the avant-garde Kelsey Lu. Shot by the illustrious Nan Goldin, the campaign captures an enchanting narrative of London—an eternal muse where the worlds of music, art, and fashion collide.

At the heart of the campaign lies the reimagined Gucci Blondie bag, a piece that transcends mere accessory status to embody the brand’s storied legacy. As Harry and Lu roam through London's iconic spaces, their creative synergy mirrors the spirit of a collection that celebrates the interplay of boldness and subtlety, offering a fresh perspective on timeless elegance.

In the early 1970s, the House created a new rounded iteration of the archival Interlocking G, the Gucci Blondie. The first bags, echoing the liberated spirit of the decade, featured the new emblem and were made in suede, a material common for the House to use at the time.

Now, in a series of new volumes and textures, the Blondie is understated but so cool in its distinctive form, offering versatility in the way it could be used or carried. Dainty iterations sport a series of straps and handles while larger sizes can be slung effortlessly over the shoulder, doubling as a work tote or a chic weekender. Featured in leather or toile, it can be held on the shoulder or as a top handle; its emblematic logo is leather-clad with a technique drawn from Gucci’s jewellery.

What sets the Gucci Blondie handbag apart is its combination of luxurious materials and everyday practicality. Crafted from premium leather or durable canvas, the Blondie is designed to be both elegant and functional. As our need for new accessories persists, the Gucci Blondie remains our point of reference, showcasing how heritage and innovation can come together to create something truly spectacular—a timeless piece for the modern wardrobe.

Blondie is available to purchase in New Zealand from Thursday, 26 September.
