G-SHOCK pays tribute to an 80’s icon - the Rubik’s Cube

Collector of sorts? Love a limited edition accessory? G-SHOCK x Rubik’s Cube recently announced the release of a limited-edition collaborative timepiece, and it’s a real blast from the past!

Introducing the GAE-2100RC-1A - a watch that brags state of the art technology with a subtle 80’s flair. Taking inspiration from the iconic Rubik’s Cube, it’s a quirky addition to your accessories collection.

The Rubik’s Cube was invented in 1974 in Hungary and was originally coined the “Magic Cube.” It was released to the rest of the world as the Rubik’s Cube in 1980 and became the iconic puzzle toy of the decade, selling 450 million units to date. The toy experienced a recent revival and hit a record year in 2017 with $250 million in sales.

The Rubik’s Cube inspired watch can change its appearance as easily as the famously frustrating puzzle, using an interchangeable bezel and tool. The screwless bezel allows it to be replaced quickly, meaning you’ll be changing up styles quicker than it takes to solve the iconic puzzle toy.

The GAE-2100RC-1A features the latest carbon core guard technology in a slimmer, more refined case. Paying homage to its much-loved retro muse, the watch has a unique octagonal bezel, framing an analogue-digital display. Despite its deceptively compact design, this watch is as durable and tough as any G-SHOCK on offer with 200-metre water resistance and shock resistance.

Adding a pop of colour to your accessories, the watch offers a choice of black or white bezels against the simple black strap, a green keeper and orange pin buckle, while the geometry and colours of the oh-so-iconic cube are displayed on the watch’s analogue/digital dial. Showing three sides of the cube on the face of the watch with the Rubik’s logo on the strap, the timepiece makes ample reference to this 80’s icon.

Dust off your boomboxes, practise your moonwalk and chuck on your Rubik’s Cube inspired G-SHOCK for the ultimate ode to the 80’s (if only we had a time machine… )
