Dressing from home with style innovator Molly Blutstein
Fashion as a form of self-expression isn’t a new concept, and neither is dressing to your mood. Even fashion trends are often a direct result of the state of our environment, from Dopamine Dressing to Recession-core, the general feeling of our surroundings play an important role in how we put an outfit together, but what about our physical environments?
For Molly Blutstein of @accidentalinfluencer, fashion is a way of exhibiting her love for interior design. Boasting over 193,000 Instagram followers, Molly’s content effortlessly interweaves her appreciation for the design world into her fashion looks. Molly Blutstein has a distinctive personal style with a vintage flair, often meshing elements of mid-century fashion with modern silhouettes to create unique looks that play with muted hues and clashing patterns.
Molly’s signature style is very much evident through the interiors she selects for her content series ‘Outfits and Interiors’, effortlessly showcasing the symbiotic relationship she has between fashion and design.”I really enjoy this crossover and feel like it really teaches me something about styling outfits, and something about styling a home or space.”
Molly’s love affair with interiors started early. Growing up, her family home had “bright, lime green walls, a roll arm sofa that was upholstered in a dark blue and green herringbone weave-style fabric, and in front of that was a 3’ by 3’ Ethan Allen blonde wood, arts and crafts style coffee table.” Like most children, Molly and her twin sister were privy to playing ‘house’. So, like any child does, she “had to cover the couch in a vintage white cotton quilt my mom had, clean the coffee table off (it was usually covered in a mess), put out lots of candles, and really set the mood for what my ‘house’ would look like, to even consider moving forward playing this ‘game’.”
Fast forward twenty-odd years, the social-media starlet’s viral ‘Outfits and Interiors’ photo-series showcases her strong connection to the design world as she curates unique outfits that are inspired by various interior spaces. In a blog post from December, Molly explained how the creation of this content “allows me to express myself and my joy of design regardless of the space around me and that feels very important to me.”
Recently venturing into the world of Tiktok and short-form video, Molly welcomed her followers into her ‘quiet life’ in Atlanta. As you’d expect, her profile is full of fashion and interior inspiration, whilst allowing us to see a little more of her personality. As the social media space continues to grow with more and more fresh-faced creators popping out of the woodwork everyday, Molly Blutstein has so effortlessly maintained her voice, consistently posting authentic content that is unique to her, and her love for the aesthetics of the world she lives in.
