Dress to impress this Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day

What other day could bring the bustling metropolis of Auckland to a standstill? Yes, you guessed it! Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day is upon us once again.

Another year of scorching sunshine, exceptional fashion and far too many glasses of bubbly… If you missed it from your iCal, don’t panic. You’ll be looking chic & hopefully catching the fashion judges’ eyes by gleaning some outfit inspo in the gallery above. From haute couture to modern chic, the official end-of-summer racing celebration is one you won’t want to miss! 

The day kicks off with a bang at 10:30am, with the shared hospitality areas opening at 11:30am for all your raceday needs. You will be surrounded by chic marquees & precincts with delicious food options, paired with a seemingly endless supply of summer-made drinks to quench your thirst.

If you’re there for an all-immersive experience, cross your fingers you scored an invite into the private Champagne Mumm marquee or, if not, spoil yourself at the pop-up space from Cocktails &. Topped off with the crème-de-la-crème of entertainment and facilities, it’s no wonder everyone arrives fashionably early!

Whilst we love to sip on Champagne Mumm and nibble on decadent canapés, the main focus on the event (apart from the horses) is of course the stunning raceday attire. Attendee’s never fail to deliver eye-catching ensembles, with last year’s races featuring some of the season’s biggest trends. If that isn’t enough to persuade you, the brand-new fashion competition – the Hawaiian Airlines Style High Flyer - crowns Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day as one of the greatest social events of the year!

Racing tradition warmly encourages all guests to dress their absolute best for the big event. With the early start to the occasion, you’ll have plenty of time to strut your stuff and mingle with Auckland’s elite.  Even though this is not a strict requirement, they suggest adding a touch of ‘something blue’ as a fun theme to follow for the day (to help you narrow down your options of course!).

The Ascot Stand, all shared hospitality and general admission precincts have a comprehensive dress code. Attendees are instructed to follow this and dress to the nines (like we need any more convincing!). But if you’re planning to make a day of it in a more casual get-up, don’t forget you still need to look your very best to join in the after-party where a live band will be playing ‘til later.

As for the races themselves, you can choose your favourite horse by name, look or even at random… everyone is lucky on Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day – if you’re not one of the three fashion winners, you might be the lucky racegoer who wins 100,000 Hawaiian Airlines air miles!
