April fashion favourites to combat the colder season

The countdown to colder weather is on and we’ve got everything you need to combat the ever-changing seasons. From new collaborations to the latest collections designed to bring comfort and cosiness, here’s what’s on our April fashion radar.

Rain ready

As much as we may hate to admit it, the rainy season is swiftly approaching and it’s time to stop being in denial and start prepping with accessories to combat the guaranteed downfall. The iconic umbrella brand BLUNT have been leaders in the industry since their inception, creating high-quality umbrellas that can combat 115km/h winds ( Wellington readers this one’s for you!) Knowing that even an umbrella is now an accessory that many fashionistas need, they have teamed up with Country Road to create a stylish and chic collab that works with every outfit. Based on BLUNT’s Metro umbrella model, the design features a button-operated canopy with an in-built spinning mechanism to avoid damage when bumped and collapses back down to fit into the matching carry sleeve. Kirby Hanrahan, Country Road Design Manager for Women’s Accessories and Footwear, says both brands are delighted with the result “Just as we do at Country Road, the team at BLUNT incorporates design principles into their products that guarantee excellent performance throughout their lifetime – and the thoughtful, innovative way in which the umbrellas are engineered means they really will last for years and years.”

Luxury living at home

As the nights quickly grow colder we often look to our loungewear drawer for the warmest, most comfortable ensemble. However, just because it’s cooling down, it doesn’t mean we have to compromise on at-home style. Introducing By Natalies newest Autumn/Winter22 collection which features some of the brand’s most iconic favourites in new colourways, as well as the introduction of new statement styles. Drop one sees a new bias cut Batwing Dress made from luxurious Tencel – a sustainable, luxurious fabric that feels silky soft, comfortable and easily washable. Knits with a cause

Standard Issue and Benee have teamed up to create a special limited edition vest with 100% of the profits going to Country Retreat Animal Sanctuary to aid in the building of essential infrastructure and resources for the puppies they rescue. Run by husband-and-wife team Helen and Gavin, Country Retreat focuses on the rescue and nurture of pregnant mothers and very young puppies. Often requiring around the clock care, these are the two most vulnerable groups of dogs with devastatingly high abandonment rates. The vest itself features artwork by Logan Buchanan and is made from NZ merino following Standard Issue’s zero waste production model. This particular charity is close to home for Stella (Benee) as she rescued her own pooch Tui from Country Retreat. As a style queen herself, Stella worked closely with the Standard Issue team to create a vest that was perfect in colour, shape and style.

Earthday kicks

With Earth Day hot on our heels ( April 22) Teva is inviting you to shop for quality over quantity and choose recycled sustainably sourced natural materials. It’s estimated more than 220,000 tonnes of textiles end up in our landfills annually - that's about 44kg of waste per person every year. Teva is a brand that's big on sustainability and in 2020 they transitioned 100% of their iconic straps to traceable verifiable recycled plastic using REPREVE® yarn. Since then, they've diverted 40 million plastic bottles from landfills and put them to better use, strapping sandals to your feet. The Zymic style is an earth-friendly sandal that offers a lighter footprint, thanks to its recycled midsole, topsole and webbing, complete with puffier straps for foot-hugging comfort. Sandals are often seen as a summer option but this particular style is made from 100% recycled rib knit and microfibre ensuring that your feet stay toasty warm even on those colder escapades.

Show your support

While Breast Cancer Awareness month is in October, the illness prevails year-round, affecting more than 3,300 Kiwi women each year. Numbers like this make the disease the most common cancer in the world, and, of course, is predominantly found in women. With family and friends affected by a cancer so rampant, show your support in a slightly quirkier way - through your stylistic expression. That's right, the iconic Breast Cancer Cure ‘Tees for a Cure’ fundraiser is back with its first-ever winter iteration, and it’s the perfect way to help a family who has been affected by the illness.
