tina runs the night - look out sydney!

Tina Moore Nike She RunsApparently I’m the woman who can’t say no to anything at the moment. Despite a pretty heavy-duty schedule of CrossFit every morning, I’ve also taken on a new challenge that involves training for the upcoming Nike She Runs event in Sydney on May 4th. This is the second year Nike has hosted the event, which is about motivating, inspiring and encouraging women to unite as a community and create a safe environment by running at night in groups around their city. This year the run is taking place on Saturday 4 May at 7pm in Sydney’s Centennial Park and they’re expecting over 6,000 women to take part! It does help of course that I am in it together with two of the most fabulous ladies in town – Leonie Barlow of thestyleinsider.co.nz and PR babe Rebecca Lawson. Together, we are ‘Team Kiwi’ (we’ll have to come up with a better name, obviously). I’m pretty fit already but I’ve never been a runner, so the 10km distance will be a little challenging. At this stage I can comfortably do 7 or 8km without too much difficulty but it’s the last couple of K’s that I need to train for and need extra encouragement to get through. So on Monday night this week we cracked into our first training session at the local Nike She Runs club that happens every Monday evening, departing from Nike Britomart at 5.30pm. It’s the ladies-only version of the weekly Nike Run Club that happens on Wednesday evenings. You can choose to go with the 3km or 6km group, and there are all levels of running fitness there. It was very motivating running with a group – I find I get a bit bored running by myself but the group vibe drove me all the way. I’ve also been using the Nike+ running app to log all my runs for the last few months, although because I arrived late and flustered after work, I forgot to set it to go this time! Duh. The app itself is a great motivational tool – it tells you when you hit each kilometre and you also get ‘cheers’ from various celeb endorsers. It’ll tell you how fast you ran and will log your route. I am a closet tech-head so it’s right up my alley. I’ll post links to my progress if you so feel inclined to follow me. At least I’ve got all the swish new gear (thanks Nike Britomart!) so that’s half the battle won, surely!? I might be a shite runner but at least I look good… Wish me luck!
