Brad Pitt has released a statement about his divorce

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt shocked the world yesterday when Jolie filed for divorce, citing 'irreconcilable differences'. Jolie also applying for physical custody of all six of their children, sparking rumors of bad parenting, substance abuse and affairs. So far, all claims have been denied. So why the split?

A legal representative Jolie has confirmed she filed papers to dissolve the marriage, claiming she had done so for the 'health of the family'. 'She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time,' attorney Robert Offer said in a statement.  

In a statement to People magazine yesterday, Pitt said he was 'saddened' by the decision. 'I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids,' he said. 

'I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.'
