Behold the bejewelled: Auckland Art Gallery's new exhibition of contemporary New Zealand jewellery

[gallery size="full" ids="6340,6343,6342,6341"] We have an appreciation for beautiful jewellery, which is why we were super excited for a new exhibition at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, which opened over the weekend. Curated by prominent jewellers Warwick Freeman and Karl Fritsch, Wunderrūma: New Zealand Jewellery displays the largest collection of contemporary New Zealand jewellery. The exhibition showcases eclectic treasures that Freeman and Fritsch discovered whilst discovered whilst exploring adornment in New Zealand. Like its title, the exhibition brings together the work of 75 contemporary artists, encapsulating New Zealand’s diverse approach to jewellery. Whilst contemporary jewellery is at the heart of the exhibition, historical, Maori and Pacific collections, fine art and industrial sources are also woven throughout. Traditional works from stone, wood and precious metal sit alongside modern works and as an added extra, Freeman and Fritsch have included 100 photographs, paintings and objects from the gallery's collections exclusively for this exhibition. Admission to this beautiful collection of New Zealand jewellery is free until November 1st. Visit Auckland Art Gallery online here for more information.
