Amber Heard has donated her $9 million divorce settlement to charity
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s divorce has finally been settled after a very public and contentious split. Heard has been accused of fabricating rumours of domestic violence in order to receive a financial settlement, but it just transpired that she has donated her entire settlement to charity.
The actress received a settlement of $9 million ($7 million US), half of which has been donated to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles; the other half has gone to the American Civil Liberties Union in the hopes of reducing domestic violence against women.
In a statement Heard said, ‘As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves.’
The former couple have also released a joint statement, explaining that both parties were genuine throughout the whole scandal.
‘Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future.’
