The 30-Day Lipstick Challenge

Intense - Perfect RedBy Tina Moore Day 1. I used to think bright lipstick was gaudy and over-the-top. Something worn only by women over a certain age. Something bothersome and high maintenance. But bright lippies are enjoying a huge resurgence in popularity and wearability these days, and I have challenged myself to wear a different one every day for a month. I have given myself this odd challenge, as it goes some way to achieving my somewhat vague New Year’s resolution to ‘make an effort every day’. This resolution came about because, to be honest, I’m a little lazy when it comes to dressing for work. You’d think that with the access we have to the latest fashion collections etc that I would be well-presented all the time, but we work out of an under-the-radar suburban townhouse where I’m hardly ever seen by anyone but our close-knit team, so I rock the t-shirt, jeans and jandals combo on an all-too-frequent basis. I figured it’s about time I made a bit more effort. So anyway, this is how it’s going to work. I will dig deep into the beauty vault at Remix HQ and rustle up 30 lipsticks (potentially a challenge in itself) that are hopefully suitable shades for my pale complexion. I will wear a different one each day, and post here my thoughts about each. I think I’ll judge them on factors of Staying Power, Colour Intensity and Moisture. Without further ado, I hereby introduce the Day 1 lipstick: L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Intense in ‘377 Perfect Red’ RRP$23.99 I’ve kicked off with a goodie! This lipstick is, as the name suggests, a very red red shade, verging ever-so-slightly on the orange side of true red. It lasted pretty well, I wore it to a breakfast meeting and even after I’d eaten I still had a good base of colour although I did reapply afterwards. I certainly wouldn’t be kissing anyone with it and expecting it not to come off. It’s very good on the moisturising scale – I’m normally a lip balm fiend but this has done the trick all day. The colour intensity is right up there – the pigment is thick and you barely need to touch your lips with it and it’s full-on. All round an impressive start to the challenge. Staying Power: 6/10 Colour Intensity: 9/10 Moisture: 8/10 Side note: I’ve ruined it already by putting the lid on without winding the lipstick back into its case. Damn it. Such an amateur move.
