Out of office: The ultimate working from ‘home’ getaway
Forget staycation, a ‘workcation’ is the new 2021 trend to check-in to. Recently, Remix founder Tim Phin changed up his usual working week with a workcation at Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour, because if last year proved anything, it’s that we can work from anywhere, so why not make it a five star, luxury hotel?
Located in the heart of the city, Sofitel’s prime location makes it easy to get around without spending hours finding a parking spot. Just a short walk to meetings on Queen street or client catch-ups in the viaduct, it's the perfect office base.
Greeted with champagne and baked goods from the in house French Press Cafe, the week was already off to a good start. Word of warning: when you’re spending a week in the Opera suite, it’s hard not to get distracted by the scenic ocean views and luxury furnishings. However, if you can pry yourself away from the view, the Sofitel is filled with work-friendly places to explore, including a business lounge complete with luxurious seating and endless wifi.
If you’re one for working while you dine then pop downstairs to La Marrée. La Marée’s cooking philosophy is to harness the culinary traditions of France, together with New Zealand’s finest seafood, and transform them into culinary masterpieces. Then, once your appetite is sated, Tim recommends popping next door for a digestif in the très chic ambience of Sabrage Champagne Bar.
The newly refurbished gym is the perfect palate cleanser to clear your head from a hard day's work. With floor to ceiling LED television screens and state-of-the-art machines, you’ll be in for a workout like no other. Finish off your session with a dip in the pool, looking out over Auckland Harbour to refresh and reset before bed.
If you’re looking for an excuse to get away, but can’t justify a week out of the office, then a workcation might just be the answer to all your working woes.
