The mirror-clad house catching eyes in Coachella Valley

For many, Coachella Valley is a location analogous with bohemian attire, up-scaled festivities and high-profile celebrities, and recognized as the sandy backdrop to the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Alas - the outskirts of this landscape also serve as a sprawling outdoor art gallery and home to the Desert X art festival, and 15 bold installations.

And one installation in particular is catching the eye of Coachella Valley commuters: an American ranch home completely clad in mirrors, inside and out.

The house, named Mirage, was created by American artist Doug Aitken, and designed to simultaneously absorb and reflect the surrounds, and confuse viewers with a kaleidoscope of light and reflection. Aitken describes Mirage as a "perceptual echo-chamber bouncing between the dream of nature as pure uninhabited state and the pursuit of its conquest."  Mirage is a bold and unique statement about the mass-production of typical American homes,  open daily to public viewers.

The Desert X art festival is a culmination of  "site-specific work by established and emerging artists, whose projects will amplify and articulate global and local issues". The festival runs from February 25th until April 30th, but Mirage will remain in place until October 31st.
