Five reasons to stay at Pier One in Sydney
Five reasons to stay at Pier One in Sydney
If you're Sydney-side and ready for a stay-cay or heading over the ditch for a quick retreat, this is a do-it-all type hotel you need to check out.
- THE LOCATION
Not only is this bad boy front and centre in the Sydney Harbour CBD, it literally sits on Pier One, directly underneath the beautiful bridge. on the doorstep of Sydney’s Arts & Theatre district, and moments from historic The Rocks and Circular Quay you can't beat the location. As you check in you can look out the heritage style windows and see the grandeur of the bridge looming above (all very quietly might I add). Being so close to the city's delights was unbelievably practical, yet as I gazed out at the sunset over the harbour from my room, I still felt far enough away that I could relax.
2. THE DINING
Being EIC of Remix, means multiple trips to Sydney throughout the year - if not every month. So, this was not my first rodeo. I've dined at some of the most prestigious hotels in the city, but in my humble opinion I experienced the best boutique breakfast buffet at Pier Dining. Omelettes are so hit and miss, but this was a 10/10, and the giant passionfruit easily exceeded any buffet memories of the tropics - apologies to the chefs for eating about 15 of them. I also got to enjoy my first solo dinner meal at the in-house restaurant too, and they catered perfectly to my pregnant dietaries, going above and beyond to let me eat the seafood my cravings demanded. Bonus points for the scallops in shells and olives.
3. THE BLACKOUT BLIND
One of Sydney's most historic hotels it is full of heritage features, where no two rooms are exactly alike. But sometimes modern touches can make a stay... and when you're waking two hours ahead of the rest of the Sydney thanks to Kiwi jet lag, a complete (and automatic) blackout blind is a saving grace. Anything to make the morning easier to sleep through so I don't endure the classic 5am wake is a win in my eyes.
4. THE MINI AMENITIES
Ok, I'll admit one of my favourite things to do when travelling is judge the complimentary toiletries in the bathroom. WHO did the hotel partner with to please the nomadic beauty and skincare aficionados like myself... In Pier One's case, it was a delight to find independently owned fragrance house 'Who Is Elijah' in the shower as well as gifted perfume on my bedside table too. The minimalist, unisex brand was a refreshing surprise from the usual suspects found on the vanity.
5. DID I MENTION IT'S WATERFRONT?
Built on and over the water, Pier One Sydney Harbour, Autograph Collection celebrates repurposed heritage at every opportunity. Sitting right out on the point of Pier One, it gives off an almost cruise ship-like experience, with your sliding door opening out into the fresh air of the Pier. ALSO - kindness, consideration and smiles go a LONG way in hospitality - especially when travelling alone. The small details the staff executed on. my behalf were worthy of a mention.
