Zabbana Jewels: We chat to the founders of the jewellery brand inspired by a love of travel

Zabbana Seven years ago Kelly Bozzone’s passion for jewellery design went as far as a much-loved hobby. Now, joined by Sarah Dorreen, Zabbana jewellery has evolved into an established brand admired not only by fellow Kiwis, but internationally too. It’s no wonder as Zabbana embraces the ideals around a wanderer at heart, with beautiful hand crafted pieces inspired by travelling. Kelly and Sarah explain to Remix writer Fiona Connor the ideas behind their collection, future goals, and what they love about the brand. What is it that sets Zabbana jewellery apart?

Kelly: We love to create really beautiful, individual, whimsical, quite girly pieces that still hold structure. They are perfect for free-spirited individuals or anyone wanting to blend a look with accessories. Sarah: Take our drop earrings for example, these are definitely a stand out for us at Zabbana. Rock them on the town or put them on with any off- duty look. They will add that feminine touch, while giving your outfit an instant lift. What is the inspiration behind the Zabbana brand? Kelly: Our inspiration is very nomadic. We are always inspired by di erent cultures, architecture, landscapes, everyday life and people. We create distinctive jewellery pieces and bags with a lot of texture, pattern and heart. Zabbana embodies a unique yet feminine take on a modern design. It’s evolved from the experiences we’ve had as travellers and been immersed in some of the most amazing places throughout the world. What makes you passionate about jewellery design? Kelly: We’re passionate about creating pieces that make women feel great, confident, and unique. We love how jewellery accessories can lift an outfit above and beyond with their detail. We love working with Black Onyx as it represents strength and independence. It contains a threat and a promise, and gives the wearer a rare power. The monochrome look of a black onyx stone set in sterling silver is timeless. What does ‘Zabbana’ represent? Sarah: Zabbana is a warrior. She is strong, determined, but also free-spirited and feminine. A wanderer at heart.
What are some goals for the brand for the future? Sarah: Currently we have a couple of stockists in the United States which is working really well for us. In 2016 we would like to expand our American market as they love something di erent and are quite passionate about our little New Zealand label. What are each of your favourite pieces from the collections? Kelly: For me the Pyramid stack ring! Sarah: Nomadic drop earrings. zabbana.com Words by Fiona Connor
