The most elaborate Met Gala themes from the last decade
The most highly anticipated charity event of the year, The Met Gala, is fast approaching and style predictions are already flying.
As of right now, all we really know about this year’s event is the theme; Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the catholic imagination.
What may at first seem like a pretty abstract concept is actually very sophisticated, the theme aims to create a connection between fashion and the religious artworks on display at the museum.
Presented at a trio of dreamy locations; the Anna Wintour Costume Centre, the Medieval Galleries at the Met on Fifth Avenue and the Cloisters, the Gala is set to be as beautiful and cultured as ever.
But the locations aren’t the only picture perfect trio at the Met gala this year; Anna Wintour’s co-hosts consist of Amal Clooney, Rihanna and Donatella Versace. After these revelations, it seems there really is some truth to the saying that good things come in threes.
If we were to make any predictions regarding what styling choices we’ll be seeing this year, we think it’s a pretty safe bet that the overall theme will be classier than before and pay homage to religious art movements such as the French and Italian Renaissance.
That being said, we can't help but feel a little nostalgic for the ghosts of themes past; last year's Comme des Garçons theme elicited a plenitude of outrageous and fabulous gowns.
The year before boasted 'Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology' as it's theme and what followed was a variety of futuristic get up's. In the spirit of reminiscing, here's a full list of the themes from the last ten years, and the creme de la creme of red carpet looks to-boot.
2017: Comme des Garçons - Rihanna
2016: Manus x Machina - Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik
2015: China: Through The Looking Glass - Rihanna

Regardless of whether our dream styling predictions become a reality this year or not, we’re all looking forward to the red carpet pictures. After all, we all know the trends being started at the Met Gala set the tone for the rest of the year fashion-wise.
