Take a Peek Into Remix’s Favourite Auckland Consignment Stores

As the conscientious consumer mindset gains momentum, the market of second-hand shopping and selling reaches an all-time high, with the fashion-forward and eco-conscious alike eager to turn trash into treasure. Whether you’re looking to reduce the size of your ‘floordrobe’ or start a selling side hustle, our favourite clothing consignment stores around Auckland are here to help.

Tatty’s

There are three Tatty’s consignment stores around Auckland, all specialising in designer, contemporary and vintage pieces. They’re proud to stock garments that are built to last and steer clear of fast fashion items. Instore and online, you’ll typically find a great mix of local and international designers, such as Wynn Hamlyn and GANNI. Down the road at Little Tatty’s, premium designers such as Comme Des Garçons and Isabel Marant reside. All accepted items follow a 6-week selling cycle, reduced by 50% by the fourth week and sellers receive a minimum of 45% of the sold price.

Recycle Boutique

Since opening its first Auckland store in 2005, Recycle Boutique has grown to an impressive 13-store portfolio, and its ethos is simple — it pays to recycle. Recycle accepts high-quality designer, contemporary and vintage goods. Your items will then move through a 7-week sale cycle — 4 weeks at full price, 2 weeks at 25% off and 1 week at 50% off. Once sold, you get 50% off the sale price. If your item doesn’t sell, you can either pick it up within 7 days or recycle it through their donation program which recycles approximately 350,000 clothing items annually!

Moral Fibre

Conveniently (and dangerously) close to Remix HQ is Moral Fibre — a fabulous clothing consignment store run by two equally fabulous ladies — Lissette and Jane. The dynamic duo sell on behalf of Aotearoa’s most fun-loving, sharply dressed and fashion-forward individuals so expect plenty of designer, colourful and one-off vintage pieces in their Ponsonby Road store. You’ll receive 50% of the profits for each piece sold and a percentage goes towards helping women in need.

Encore Designer Recycle

With more than 40 years of experience in the buying and selling of pre-loved items, if there’s anyone to trust with your unwanted items, it’s the team at Encore DesignerRecycle. Online or in-store, designers such as Caitlin Crisp, Paris Georgia and Aje are just a few you may expect to shop and give an inclination of what they typically accept. Encore’s sale cycle sets them apart from many other consignment stores. Here, your items are listed for 12-14 weeks which gives them plenty of time to find a new and happy home.

Nu to U

On Parnell Road, you’ll find family-run and fashion-forward Nu to U — a consignment boutique with more than 30 years of experience specialising in selling high-end, local and international designers. Owner Emily-Jane estimates that around 70% of her suppliers are repeat clients, cementing the team’s top customer care levels. Nu to U operates on a 6-week sales cycle, with items discounted for the last 2 weeks. Clients receive 50% of the profits.

& Again

A newcomer to the consignment scene is online store & Again. The online-based clothing store prides itself on taking the hassle out of selling your clothes. Rather than dropping off in-store, pop online and order a ‘tidy kit’. Simply fill your tidy kit with the clothes you no longer want, send it to the team (for free!) and they’ll sort through your wares ready for selling. The percentage of commission you’ll receive on sold items depends on the price it’s sold at — the higher the final sale price, the higher the percentage— with this reaching as high as 60%!

re:generate

FashionFollowing the popularity of its re:generate Markets, last year, re:generate opened its rent-a-rack consignment store in Takapuna. Here, sellers can rent a rack, fill it with their garments and set the prices. The maximum rental time is 14 days and as your items sell, you can top it up accordingly. The team will supply everything you need, including price tags, hangers and a steamer, and you’ll receive a 30% commission on your total sales.

Designer Wardrobe

From a small Facebook start-up in 2013, today, Designer Wardrobe has grown to a 120,000-strong community that celebrates the buying and selling of designer clothing. Whether online or on the app, expect to shop and sell a wide range of NZ and international brands such as Ruby, Kowtow and Marle. It’s always free to list items and for sales under $40, DW takes a flat fee of $4.95. For sales above $40, its commission is just 12.95% — can we get an amen?!
