G-SHOCK welcomes five new models to its Revival watch series

In the early 1980s, the idea of an indestructible watch seemed far-fetched—until G-SHOCK made it a reality. In 1983, the DW-5000C debuted - a watch engineered to endure the toughest conditions and exceed conventional shock-resistance standards. Since then, G-SHOCK’s ultra-durable watch line has evolved from a niche tool for extreme sports enthusiasts to a global icon spanning streetwear, military, and high-fashion circles. Yet, despite the brand’s technological advancements and experimental collaborations, some of its most compelling releases are the ones that look back rather than forward. Enter the G-SHOCK Revival Models.

More than 40 years later, we welcome five familiar but refined faces - the DW-5000R-1A, DW-5600RL-1, DW-6900RL-1, GA-110RL-1A, and GA-2100RL-1A. Careful not to fall head-first into cliche nostalgia territory, the line-up of G-SHOCK Revival Models pays homage to each original predecessor through subtle nuances perhaps most noticeable to brand loyalists and introduced to improve the user experience.

On the surface, the overall appearance of the five revival models remains remarkably true to the originals, including the matte black resin cases and the identical brick-pattern dial plate surrounding the LCD screen. Even the original colour scheme is faithfully reproduced, each primary shade deliberately chosen to represent core elements of the G-SHOCK identity:

  • Red - representing the passion to take on challenges.
  • Yellow - signifying outstanding shock resistance.
  • Blue - symbolising excellent water resistance.

In true G-SHOCK style, each Revival model retains the core G-SHOCK features: shock resistance, generous 200m water resistance, stopwatch, countdown timer, and multiple alarms.

However, these five timepieces aren’t just carbon copies neatly wrapped-up in a 2025 box. While the Revival series stays visually loyal to its origins, G-SHOCK has subtly refined each model to elevate its everyday practicality, wearability and overall user experience.

Just take a closer look at the DW-5000R-1A model. Like the original, the bezel and band are made with resin, but this time, in efforts to reduce environmental impact, bio-based resin takes its place. Beyond materials, legibility is fine-tuned, thanks to a higher-brightness LED backlight improvement, offering better nighttime visibility without over saturating the display.

But what truly sets the Revival Series apart is its return to its roots. Just like their predecessors, each Revival watch is manufactured at the “mother factory” of G-SHOCK aka the Yamagata Casio facilities, chosen as an expression of respect for the highly skilled engineers who crafted the first models.

For collectors, the appeal is obvious. For newcomers, these watches are an accessible gateway into G-SHOCK’s deep history. Either way, the Revival Series is a testament to the enduring power of good design and a reminder that, sometimes, the best way forward is to look back.
