A Look Inside Dolce & Gabbana's Alta Moda Sicilian Show

Dolce & Gabbana’s highly anticipated Alta Moda show has graced Palermo with its beauty. The spectacle was a grand celebration of the Italian city, and presented all of the most loved aspects of Dolce & Gabbana. The flowing gowns and elegant detailing came alive as the models circled the Piazza Pretoria, before making their way up to the Fontana Pretoria fountain. Amongst adorned statutes of mermaids and nymphs, the 126 looks stood as icons of the fashion house's history and influences.

The show was inspired by Sicilian architecture, history and folklore. Dolce & Gabbana embraced Palermo’s deep cultural history; bringing in elements of the area’s Middle Eastern, Arabian, African and Spanish heritage. The line did not shy away from Sicily’s Catholic roots, but rather embraced the great number of cultural influences of the region. This was reflected in the fine detailing and colourful prints of the gowns, and in the baroque jewellery of the collection.

One of Dolce & Gabbana’s most prominent influences was the novel, The Leopard, which chronicled much of Sicily’s changing political and social scenes, carving the area into the diversely beautiful region it is today. This was reflected quite literally into the printed gowns. The first look even featured the famous quote “everything needs to change, so that everything can stay the same” hand painted on the hem.

Intricate headpieces of feathers, floral and gold filled the show; and dark red lips were the reigning look. In a show of colour, embroidery, lace and sequin, it is almost impossible to pick favourite looks; so here is a few of the best.
