The best dressed stallions and fillies from this year's Melbourne Cup

The very best in spring racing style came out to the fore at yesterday's Melbourne Cup, with Auckland's social set flooding Ellerslie Racecourse for OMF Melbourne Cup Day, donning their sartorial accouterments for the festivities. 

As the ONLY location in Auckland to host both live racing as well as the big race that has Australasia at a stand still come 5pm, Ellerslie Racecourse was a hive of activity from midday onwards. 

Auckland Racing Club ambassador Carena West kept her eyes peeled for the most impressive race day outfit, with the winner taking home a grand prize of $1,000 cash. 

This year's guests didn't hold back - with Fashion in the Field entrants opting to experiment with their looks, think elaborate crowns, punchy hues, sculptural silhouettes and florals for days. 

We went behind-the-scenes at the chic G.H.Mumm marquee to uncover the best dressed stallions and fillies, and we certainly weren't disappointed.
