Ariana Grande speaks up about feminism

This year feminism has been a hot topic, as celebrities such as Lena Dunham, Emma Roberts and Beyoncé have been speaking openly and often about their beliefs. However, singer Ariana Grande has snuck up on us with her low-key approach. Now Grande has opened up on her views in her new Billboard cover story.

During the interview, Grande pulled up a series of tweets from a U.K. radio station that praised Justin Bieber and Zayn Malik for posing topless, while criticising the likes of Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian.

‘If you’re going to rave about how sexy a male artist looks with his shirt off, and a woman decides to get in her panties or show her boobies for a photo shoot, she needs to be treated with the same awe and admiration,’ Grande says.

She goes on to paint a vivid and empowering image of what she plans on doing when she’s 95. ‘I will say it until I’m an old-ass lady with my tits out at Whole Foods. I’ll be in the produce aisle, naked at 95, with a sensible ponytail, one strand of hair left on my head and a Chanel bow. Mark my words. See you there with my 95 dogs.’ Maybe the amount of dogs the singer plans to own is a tad exaggerated, but one thing is for sure, Ariana is branching away from her Nickelodeon roots and stepping out on her own.

When talking with Billboard the 22-year-old also speaks up about hating drama - ‘If people are fighting, I stay as far away as possible,’ says Grande. ‘I’ve said this a million times: I hate drama. I love women in the industry. I’m a big fan of all my peers, and I try to keep it a hundred. That’s why I don’t look at anything. I’m like, ‘My song’s out!’ Then I run for the hills. ‘Here’s another picture of my dogs! Bye!’
