Manchester's granting of an honorary citizenship arises from the singer's heroism when she returned to perform for Manchester during the One Love Manchester concert, just after the tragic attacks during her tour in Manchester that killed 22 people.
Manchester City Council Leader Sir Richard Leese declared her actions as bringing comfort to thousands, not to mention the millions raised for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.
Returning to perform and face the citizens of Manchester after such a traumatic experience would be heartbreaking, and to do is extremely courageous. Understandably, Richard Leese proposed Ariana Grande as the first honorary citizen of Manchester to honour as a tribute to her bravery and compassion.
We will forever respect Ariana Grande for her actions towards Manchester!
