Get grounded...

Immerse yourself in nature whilst the sun is out for Vit D. Take a hike, whip off your shoes and stroll along the beach or simply go for a walk around the neighbourhood (without your phone). Walk on grass, stones and pebbles. Feel the sand in between your toes and let your mind be at ease. Incorporating crystals into your grounding methods can also help remove any negative energy within a person or a space. Black tourmaline, also known as the ‘grounding stone’ is one of the most commonly used crystals, boasting healing properties, giving a sense of power and self-confidence, as well as blocking any negative energies. Place the crystal near you or pop it under your pillow to make the most of its balancing and harmonising properties.

Discover your favourite podcast...

Sometimes with the noise of the world,
it can become a little overwhelming. Tuning out with a podcast can be a sweet escape, and whether you prefer wellness,
true crime, comedy or just listening to a simple conversation, there’s one out there for everybody. Check out page 220 for some of our personal recommendations if you need some inspiration.

Eight hours of sleep...

We hear you... it’s easier said than done. A solid eight hours of sleep helps battle mental health concerns such as stress, anxiety and depression. It also benefits the overall health of your immune system and helps prevent serious health problems such as diabetes and heart disease. Try calming the mind before you go to bed, adopt daily breathwork practices, bury yourself in a book to help you drift to sleep naturally, introduce daily exercise habits and a magnesium-rich diet, or opt to take magnesium supplements before you head to bed to naturally encourage a night of deep sleep.

Breathwork...

Speaking of breathwork... we’re all aware of how important breathing is for our body. Practising daily breathwork oxygenates your cells, promotes healing and helps to calm your nervous system through deep, slow inhalations, letting your thoughts slow and helping you tap into a state of peace and relaxation. If you’re new to breathwork, start by adopting the 4-7-8 breathing technique – breathe in for four, hold for seven, and exhale for eight. This breathing pattern not only helps reduce anxiety but promotes healthy sleep patterns and, of course, breath regulation.

Stay hydrated...

As the days get warmer, hydration becomes increasingly more important. Dehydration can negatively affect your overall health, weakening your immune system, negatively impacting heart health, increasing your risk of obesity and promoting premature ageing. Aiming to consume within two to three litres a day is the recommended daily intake, which will also battle brain fatigue throughout the day and increase overall energy levels. If plain water isn’t your thing, make the most of summer by cutting up some seasonal fruit and adding it to your water bottle. Peach water? Yes, please.

Practising gratefulness...

Most people don’t realise there is a science that backs the benefits of practising gratitude. People who regularly take time to notice and reflect upon the things they’re thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems. When we express gratitude and receive the same, our brain releases dopamine and serotonin – the two crucial neurotransmitters responsible for our emotions, and they make us feel ‘good’. Take note: gratitude needn’t be reserved only for momentous occasions: yes a work promotion is fab, but you can also be thankful for something as simple as a delicious morning coffee, or an unexpected hug from your niece or nephew. Research by psychologist Robert Emmons shows that simply keeping a gratitude journal – regularly writing brief reflections on moments for which we’re thankful – can significantly increase well-being and life satisfaction.
