Remix reveal the truth behind real hair extensions
Hair extensions have grown in more ways than one over the last decade. We sat down with industry leading Loxy’s hair salon founder, Kate Jarrett, to debunk the common fears and misconceptions of extensions.
MYTH: HAIR EXTENSIONS ARE GOING TO DAMAGE MY HAIR
‘This is probably the most common concern that people have before deciding to get hair extensions, however when applied and maintained correctly, extensions should cause no damage to your natural hair. At Loxy’s we work with a unique micro weft system in salon that involves no harsh glues or braiding like most other hair extension systems. This means the extensions stay in your hair 24/7 and are maintained in salon every 5-7 weeks. In cases where your hair isn’t suitable for permanent extensions we recommend our Loxy’s Collection clip-in extensions. You install them yourself at home in a matter of minutes and remove before bed, meaning less tension on your scalp.’
MYTH: I CAN’T TREAT MY EXTENSIONS LIKE MY OWN HAIR
‘Loxy’s extensions are 100% premium quality human hair, so within reason they can be treated like your natural hair. Our extensions can be washed, dried and styled exactly as you would with your own hair. The only thing we wouldn’t recommend doing to your extensions is lightening them or colouring them yourself without the help of an experienced stylist.’
MYTH: EXTENSIONS ARE ALL ABOUT LENGTH
‘Extensions don’t need to be long! If you’re a fine-haired girl who is just after volume, having your extensions trimmed to match your natural length is a great way to achieve a subtle volume boost. We have so many clients who struggle with fine, lifeless hair. Extensions used as volumisers are the perfect solution!’
MYTH: HAIR EXTENSIONS LOOK FAKE
‘I’m sure that all of us have witnessed a hair extension mishap at some point. It’s true that sometimes extensions can look obvious when they are too long, not quite the right colour, or not blended into the natural hair correctly. This can be remedied! Firstly, a great colour match is key. Loxy’s carry 10 shades of extensions and and that we are able to colour match 95% of clients. If the colour match isn’t perfect, that one of our experienced stylists are able to colour the extensions darker or tone them to match your natural hair. Blending is also important - having a stylist cut the extensions to blend with your natural hair really makes all the difference in how natural they look. Shaping around the face and some loose layering will be the difference between super obvious and fake looking, and undetectable, natural and beautiful extensions.’
