Reeling in some of the area’s finest purveyors for a grand celebration of ‘vitamin sea’, Oyster Festival Matakana is marking its third year of a shucking great day out on Sunday 6 October.
Kicking off the Mahurangi Harbour season – the birthplace of oyster farming in New Zealand – the movers and shuckers behind the slippery delicacies will be face to face with foodies for a day of fanatical feasting, with the first of the Mahurangi season offering up a plump, creamy and less salty taste than that of other varietals.
Paired with an exquisite line-up of local wines and produce, this all-weather event will entertain the whole family with live music, a foodie demonstration tent, kids entertainment and of course, shucking competitions.
