New spot on the block - The Kitchen by MR TOMS

Firmly established Ponsonby Road local MR TOMS has recently opened The Kitchen, a brand new offering by renowned chef Tom Williamson.

Whilst MR TOMS was quick to burst onto the scene with outstanding food, drinks and atmosphere, perfect for a sunny Friday afternoon with friends, The Kitchen offers a more refined à la carte dining experience. Combine them and you get the best of both worlds - a meal at The Kitchen followed by beers and cocktails at MR TOMS; sounds much like perfection to us.

Owned by Future Bars lads, James Ace and Bert Haines the dining experience is enticing from the moment you step through the doors. They say of the space, 'We have put so much effort into growing our MR TOMS bar offering and it’s really paid off. Now it’s time to launch the bistro restaurant, and we can’t wait for guests to see the new interior. We have taken into consideration what our locals want to eat and we hope they will love this creative yet simple menu,'.

The duo are right - the menu is definitely something special. The incredibly talented Chef Tom favours seasonal produce with The Kitchen's delicate menu, heralding quality over quantity with no more than 12 options to choose from. The refined decision making sure pays off, and The Kitchen offers something for everyone. For the shellfish lovers, think cured kingfish, sliced delectably and paired with a delicate balance of miso, mandarin, avocado, coconut and caviar. For the meat lovers, go for the chef's favourite with a piece of eye fillet steak cooked to choice, smoked bone barrow butter, triple cooked chips, broccolini, roasted baby onions and jus.

Our Remix vote however, goes to the veggie option of homemade gnocchi, accompanied by a medley of celeriac, kale and chestnut, topped with a 75 degree egg. As you can see, the menu is incredibly lust-worthy. A definite must-add restaurant for your next dinner date. But be sure to arrive hungry, the flourless almond cake, salted caramel mousse or chocolate tart are bound to satisfy any leftover cravings. And did we mention the Lewis Road Creamery Espresso Martini?!

The gourmet dinner menu will be on offer from Tuesdays through to Saturday evenings, and the restaurant space allows seating for up to 36 guests. The hot-spot located on the corner of Anglesea St and Ponsonby Road will no doubt be locals new go-to. The comfy yet contemporary interior space features nautical themes, low hung tungsten bulbs set against luscious greenery; creating a soft warm atmosphere.

Well done to the talented owners and chefs for creating yet another Ponsonby favourite.
