NZFW Ruby and Liam
By Jessica Beresford
Grimes set the tone for Liam's collection 'A New Power', which opened the combined show with sister label Ruby as well as New Zealand Fashion Week as a whole. The style of these two always seems to effortlessly mold together, although this year they both seemed more contrasted as individual brands.
Liam's collection drew inspiration from its debut show at last year's Fashion Week, with long silk silhouettes and colour-blocked pant suits. This time around it took on a more relaxed approach, though, fit with unbuttoned shirts, hanging chain suspenders and deep v-necks. Khaki was the stand out colour, with pops of red and teal. Hair and make up for Liam was kept elegant, with side sweeped buns and minimal nude eyes and lips.
Ruby's show 'Mr Destiny' had a retro rock n' roll theme, with JD McPherson's North Side Gal blaring as metallic pleats, high socks and little beanies walked down the catwalk. These were paired with pastel fur shrugs and the slouchy knits designer Deanna Didovich does so well. The stand out prints were a pink leopard print and a black on white micro-floral. Hair and makeup offered a blue flared eye shadow with a hint of glitter and slightly waved long locks. We're betting Ruby fans will fawn over this super wearable, fun collection.
