Meet the legends playing this Friday at Our:House Festival

Our House Festival is finally here! This Friday, November 22nd, Western Springs is turning all the way up with insane sets, killer energy, and the kind of crowd that lives for the beat drop. Among the lineup, we’ve got two absolute legends ready to take the stage: the NZ icons Shapeshifter, masters of genre-bending soundscapes, and international party-starter Hugel, whose tracks are basically made for vibing.

Remix Digital Assistant Beth had a quick chat with both to get the lowdown on their favourite tracks, pre-show rituals, and what they’re bringing to the festival scene this year. Spoiler: you’re not gonna want to miss these sets!

How does it feel to hear your music in New Zealand?

It makes me very proud to see that people listen to my music worldwide. I am very happy to perform in New Zealand very soon and it is great to know that people in New Zealand support me as an artist and listen to my music. That gives me great energy.

Do you have any other future collabs in the works?

I am very excited about my upcoming work with big international artists. Recently,  I released my global track "I Adore You" together with J Balvin and Ellie Goulding. It's a great honour for me to work with established international artists like these two. I am very proud of this project. I am not able yet to speak about upcoming collaborations for 2025 but all I can say is: Big things are following ...

What's one song that inspired you early in your career?

There is not one track which inspired me. It was more the leading artists and people who inspired me. Back in the days when I was younger, I was a huge fan of David Guetta. I still am a fan of him and it's great to see the achievements he had over the past years and what impact he has on the electronic music industry.

What’s one track you always play in your sets?

I have my own style, but at the same time, I like to adapt my sets depending on the vibe of the crowd and what the people need. I think this shows the quality of a real and successful DJ. There is not this one track that I play in every set, but I am happy about the fact that I am able to fill up my entire set with my own tracks or tracks from my record label "Make The Girls Dance Records". You can use it as a great indicator when you are able to bring the party to the people with your own music. I am happy about that.

Can we expect any new releases soon?

Whenever I have creative moments and great ideas: Then I open my laptop or go into my music studio and bring these ideas into a song. I like to release new and trendy music regularly - like I did in the past. That is my passion, and it made me the person I am today. To answer your question: Yes, definitely, new music will be released very soon. We already have some dates for the upcoming releases. My Song "I Adore You," together with J Balvin and Ellie Goulding was just released on 15 November 2024 and there will be many more will follow in 2025.

What's been the most memorable moment so far?

As a band, there have been a lot of memorable moments throughout our existence. Glastonbury and Exit Festival in Serbia are right up there. So many amazing festivals at home and abroad.

What's your favourite part of performing at home?

Playing our music to our people is the best. Testing out new music is always exciting.

How has your sound evolved over the years?

Primarily starting out as an instrumental act with guest vocals, the sound has grown so much. Still keeping the classic SS sounds, our songwriting and ability have developed and matured a lot.

After 25 years, what still excites you most about creating music?

Making new music is still the best feeling for us. We love it. And then testing it out live on stage to see if our people feel it is the ultimate test and an absolute rush.

How do you unwind after an intense performance?

First, you gotta bathe in the afterglow. Surrounded by friends and family, we usually have a couple of beers and maybe some pizza. Boom, ready for the next show.
