Our review of new must-see movie, Suicide Squad

Our new fangirl obsession of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn aside, the much anticipated release of DC’s Suicide Squad last night gave us a whole lot more to get our inner geek excited about.

Director David Ayer brings together a star-studded cast full of A-lister favourites, an outrageously non-stop action plot and a villain just bad enough to warrant a team of the criminally insane being called upon to defend the world.

Long time fans of the DC Universe will get their kicks out of the characters on screen, which are made up of bad guys, good guys, and those somewhere in between. Notable highlights include Jared Leto as the Joker, who does the role justice while filling the boots left by Heath Ledger’s legendary 2008 portrayal in The Dark Knight. Will Smith challenges himself to a role slightly less ‘American Hero’ than we’re used to seeing from him as Deadshot, while Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Karen Fukuhara’s Katana throw satisfying levels of kick-ass girl power into the mix.

While we don’t want to say too much more for fear of spoiling this one ahead of your viewing pleasure this weekend, do take note of two things: the stand out sound track featuring old throwbacks and new obsessions (which we’re now playing in the office on repeat), and the slick style attributed to each one of these awesome characters. Thanks to Margot Robbie, colorful pigtails and 90’s bangs might just be our new thing…

Suicide Squad is a fast-paced, dangerously insane ride with some seriously cool comic book power scenes thrown in; a must-see for the teenage superhero lover in all of us.

Check it out in theatres from today!
