Big wins for Lorde, BROODS & David Dallas at Kiwi music awards last night

ISSUE 82 HIRES (dragged)Last night's Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards were an enormous celebration of all the incredible Kiwi music released over the last year. Hosted by Shannon Ryan and Dai Hendwood at Auckland's Vector Arena, the NZVMAs brought together the best in the industry, giving a nod to what has undoubtedly been our biggest year ever on the world music charts. The show opened up with David Dallas performing his hit single 'Runnin’. Dallas took home two 'Tuis' for 'Best Male Solo Artist' and 'Best Urban / Hip Hop Album' for his third solo album Falling Into Place. Our fave brother and sister duo Broods took home their very first Tui for 'Breakthrough Artist Of the Year'. Their achievement was followed by what we reckon was the performance of the night. Sitting behind the piano, Georgia Nott belted out the lyrics to their hit single 'Bridges', proving Broods are as incredible live as they are on their album. The Naked and Famous also picked up a Tui for 'Best Group', along with Tiny Ruins, who after recently being announced for Laneway 2015, received a Tui for 'Best Alternative Album' with Brightly Painted One. The newest judges on The X Factor New Zealand panel, husband and wife team Natalia Kills and Willy Moon, also made a guest appearance as presenters. The star of the night however, was of course Lorde. Walking away with six Tuis for 'Best Album Of the Year' and for Pure Heroine, 'Best Solo Artist', 'Best Single Of the Year' for 'Team', 'Highest Selling Single' and the prestigious 'International Achievement' award. She may be mates with Taylor Swift, accustomed to scooping up awards the world over, but Lorde was ecstatic to be home, admitting she was on the verge of tears up on stage in front of her Kiwi family.
