Fenty x PUMA: Straight from the front row, all you need to know about Rihanna's debut NYFW show
When it comes to NYFW, Rihanna is the one star you are bound to see. Whether she is sitting in the front row at Alexander Wang or Versace, or hitting up one of the many after-parties, she’s there, and dressed in her signature inimitable style. However, nothing prepared us for FW16 and sitting front row to watch RiRi debut her incredible, monochromatic, ghetto-gothic, Fenty x PUMA collection.
The collection, which comprised mainly of sportswear, was showcased on a mirrored catwalk, with dry ice and a monochromatic ‘forest’ in true Rihanna fashion. Cross pendants, crystal garters, gothic lacing, and creepers were all involved, only adding to the hugely gothic vibe that the show presented. Rih said that she wanted to create a collection which not only represented who she was and how she dresses, but also wanted to ensure she pushed the boundaries within her designs, and took PUMA somewhere unexpected and unpredictable. And the fashion icon sure did not disappoint. The recently appointed Creative Director of PUMA challenged the idea of gender-based clothing, by blurring the lines between traditional male and female silhouettes, through the use of exaggerated and voluminous designs.
Models were made to look as though they were overcome by the environmental elements, donning black lips, pale complexions, white lashes, and slicked back hair coated in white paint. And who else would be better to showcase a collection as self-inspired and theatrical as Fenty x Puma, than the Hadid sisters?
Whilst an almost unrecognisable Gigi closed the show in an oversize textured black hoodie and crystal garter belt, Bella stormed the runway in a black form-fitting lace up catsuit, highlighting her striking features. Remix were lucky enough to be front row at the show, and snapped this pic of Bella looking as edgy as ever:
And what would a fashion show be without a star-studded front row? Anna Wintour, Drake, Jeremy Scott, and Naomi Campbell were just a handful of the many familiar faces that hailed RiRi as she stomped down the runway in an oversized hoodie and lace up boots, sans pants of course. This is one collection we seriously can't wait to get our hands on!
